A Brother’s Love (Badge Book 2015 Found Poem)

Published April 18, 2015 by kdorholt

A Brother’s Love

My brother
always wore
his heart on his face
bounding for the first
hug and kiss,
in his familiar beret.

He cherished
the girl, family
(his strength
to this day)

The proverbial
welcome sprang
from his home,
the City of Light
for all of us–

I understood
right away.

You, Look! (Badge Book 2015 Found Poem)

Published April 17, 2015 by kdorholt

You, Look!

You, yeah, you,
you good young folks.
Look for goodness
with proud resilience . . .
Go to those who hunger
with overwhelming hunger . . .
Go to mothers who shout need
for education . . .
Create complete community
around others . . .
Wonder, think,
know, read . . .
Give back to life,
your world.
But remember,
You got to look!
You, You, You!

A Message (Badge Book 2015 “As Advertised” Found Poem)

Published April 15, 2015 by kdorholt

For the “As Advertised” Found Poem, we were to find a community bulletin board and write down words and phrases from posted messages and write a poem using the words and phrases. I used the bulletin board in the lobby of the Brookfield Library.

It’s all elementary,
of no importance,
armchair travel,
first-rate madness!
Talking about
elder care and aging parents . . .
planning a storied life  . . .
or the patio vegetable garden . . .
attending classes in
food therapy and fitness . . .

The rest of us
need to know
where to go for
a new understanding . . .
to experience
great lives.
Do you know,
who is available
to teach us this?
Please, leave a message.

In the Beginning (Badge Book 2015 “Off the Shelf” Found Poem)

Published April 11, 2015 by kdorholt

We begin . . . with water
Dipping our hands . . . in the holy font
(bronze basins constructed . . . on biblical faith)
because God does . . . in nature
the amniotic sac . . . in the womb
Birth begins . . . with water breaking
New life . . . in order
a sacred sign . . . from common element
a natural sacrament . . . of God

Haiku Discombobulater (Badge Book 2015 Found Poem)

Published April 11, 2015 by kdorholt

I could have fun all day with the Haiku Discombobulater until you create a haiku you like. Here’s one of many I discombobulated. (Here’s the discombobulating site:, )

A lovely sunset
brilliant, hibiscus twilight–
how soon must it rain?

Haiku I used

In the twilight rain

these brilliant-hued

hibiscus . . .

A lovely sunset

The Way (Badge Book 2015 found poem)

Incredible writers,
the classics,
help unprepared us
see social issues
in grim times
but believe
at levels
never known before.
They keep us
leaning toward
the true answer
resolution in
the reader.
