First Found Poem for National Poetry Month (All poems of April 2015 will be found poems. I am participating in the POMOSCO Badge Book Project.)

Carson’s Town

On Saturdays
(nothing whatsoever to do)
the church is a place
far off, estranged,
turned inward–
the largest building
along the main street
long and lonesome,

two fiery colored windows–
white with glare
and a curious
cracked look
(one portion
darker, dingier)
look down
on the town . . .
A gray front porch
lingers–left unfinished
(part of the wall
boarded up),
dim, two-room houses
once painted peach,
sexless and short trees–
not a soul to be seen . . .

In late afternoon,
the shift is finished . . .
Society City tenants,
miserable cotton mill
workers–bound to collapse
in the very center–
exchanging one (secret)
gaze of grief,

use the nearest train,
White Bus Lines,
(otherwise, walk Fork Falls)
to a house
far off to the right,
three miles,
a hundred miles–
completely away . . .

Puzzling. . .
