No Fooling!

Here’s my response to Day 2 NaPoWriMo 30 poems/30 days challenge. Prompt: Write a “lie poem.” I have no idea from whence it came, but it’s here:

No Fooling!

I love to order saltwater jellyfish in baked Alaska
or sauteed in watermelon rind and served
on shrimp scales smothered in winter wine sauce
homemade by my neighbors two streets down
and one block over in their stone-and-tar snakepit
built as a 50th anniversary gift
by the Milwaukee Police Department
in conjunction with the National Book Award
(which I plan to win, by the way, with the journalistic novel
I am writing this month about the MPD and
its ubiquitous, yet clandestine ruses with the NBA).
Tune in to Rachel Maddow for updates.
Her “cocktail moment” this Friday will include
Jellyfish Jitters, the recipe I sent her yesterday for her
No fooling!
