I Might/But Then Again poetry challenge

Here’s my tentative poem–a feeling that seems to be pervasive in my life.
I Might/But Then Again

I might visit Harvard and walk along

the corridors of hallowed Emerson Hall

basking in the echoes of elucidate thoughts and

acute academia that holyily haunt them.

But then, again

I might feel way too conspicuous and unworthy,

like a neon-lighted sign hangs from my neck
flashing out my IQ score,

So maybe I might not.

I might buy a long, red wavy wig and a puce,

plunging neckline dress, and an ebony cigarette holder
to attend Guthrie’s opening night and drink champagne

before the play (which I’ve already started) begins,
But then, again
I might remember my age, wigs, puce and plunging
are not my style and cigarettes and champagne
sometimes give my headaches
So maybe I might not.

I might write a poem that moves minions

so that their souls soar to kiss

the brilliant blue of today’s sky

and their spirits sing to the spring sprites

hidden among the dazzling daffodils

But then again

I might remember someone just might

read the poem and toss it, nonchalantly–naked

in the the crisp quackgrass, leaving it lying–lonely

So maybe I might not.
