My Comfort

You are the lockless door.
The safe light in the window on
a moonless, murky night.
The sun glittering in the snow
like bits of laughter after
a blizzard’s worrisome wail.

You are the certainty that
Santa is real and saints will rule.
Memories made with Grandma.
A sun-streamed afternoon
curled in the cozy chair
and well-worn flannels.

You are just the right time.
The kitchen that’s clearly for cooking.
The table that is always set with
bowls that never empty, encircled
by friends who want to share.
All the colors to paint the picture.

You reach out
to those searching
for invitation and fill their need.

You are my comfort
heartfelt, constant, kind.
