1 Perle, pleasaunte to prynces paye Oh, Pearl favor worthy of nobility
2 To clanly clos in golde so clere, A match for gold, this treasure
3 Oute of oryent, I hardyly saye, No gem can match her measure.
5 So rounde, so reken in vche araye, Perfect circle–splendid curiosity,
6 So smal, so smoþe her syde3 were, Dainty, shiny–mine forever.
7 Quere-so-euer I jugged gemme3 gaye, I set her down in silken luxury,
8 I sette hyr sengeley in synglere. Wherever I roamed she gave me pleasure.
9 Allas! I leste hyr in on erbere; But in one spec of eternity,
10 Þur3 gresse to grounde hit fro me yot. Four brigands stole her from my sack.
