Today we were prompted to look at a poem we’ve written and write it a new way in forms of first person. Because of time constraints, I read a TMJ4 report “50 Miles March Ends in Janesville with Rally for Reform Students Across the State Participated” by Laure Winfrey (3/28/18.3/2918), found quotes by marchers, and used them to write haiku-like stanzas.
First Person 2018
I wanted change made . . .
Black children been dying for
Years—gun violence
One of the dozens . . .
Kids hurting but still going
Civil rights leaders
The “50 Miles More” . . .
Movement inspired by Sixties
Message is mighty
Though decades later . . .
Motives may be different
We marched 50 miles
Forty of us came . . .
We raised our voice—people heard
Around the nation
Now children challenge . . .
Across the country join in
The 50 Miles More
