Saints and Martyrs: Once Upon a Time
The morning began
with celebration
to mothers everywhere
at the parochial school
each boy (angels
since the dawn of time)
crossed the ancient
archway to manhood
in his heart
singing songs
with his silver tongue
in their arms
a rose and
a tissue packet
for each mom
In the silent church
the resident atheist
an elegant woman
clad in a glamorous
fox fur coat
long flaxen hair
six inches below the shoulder
built golden images
with her tears
and longed for
a chivalrous father
a deep devotion
a burning love
a spontaneous life
Poem from Anne Tyler Page (Badge Book 2015 “Roll-the-Dice” Found Poem)
Published November 8, 2017 by kdorholtThe Fourth Edition of Laughter (Badge Book 2015 ‘Substitute Texter” Poem)
Published November 8, 2017 by kdorholtThe “Substitute Texter” found poem we were to choose a source text where key terms reappear frequently throughout it and replace key terms with another unrelated term and write a poem from the text. I chose an article about entangle and replaced that term with “laughter.” If I were to revise this, I would substitute more repeated words than just one.
Laughter
has spread
around the world
without the need
of advertising,
spread simply
by word of mouth
like a most wondrous
infectious “virus”
With laughter,
as with love,
who needs a cure.
Laughter
is easy
relaxing
reduces stress
quiets your restless mind
Unplanned,
it grows organically
the results
surprise you–
abstract “something”
without up or down
simply
“Laughter Art”

Bursting Beauty (Badge Book 2015 “On Demand” Found Poem)
Published November 8, 2017 by kdorholtThe “On Demand” found poem was a multi-step poem using different websites. We were to start by coming up with an unlikely word combination. I chose “orange banana.” We could “make up our own, choose words at random from a source text, or use a generator like the one at JimPix (http://jimpix.co.uk/words/random-username-generator.asp) to come up with words.” Then we were to visit Google and do a search of our chosen word combination without quotes. From the results page(s) we were to write a poem from words in page titles and short descriptions provided.
Creating is
bursting beauty
that will grow
passionate, perfect,
unique-shaped
like love . . .
(I do.)
(As you wish.)
Experience it
developing, delectable
warm sweetness,
refreshing your
every day.
Stop!
Standby . . .
Experiment!

The Whole Idea Is to Make Your Mouth Water, Really (Badge Book 2015 “Order’s Up” Found Poem)
Published November 8, 2017 by kdorholtFor the “Order’s Up” found poem, we were challenged to visit a local restaurant, bar or coffee shop and snag a copy of the menu, and write a poem using only words and phrases found on the menu.
Our canvas
hand-rubbed
hand-crafted
juicy, just
a stone’s throw
from heaven,
a patio pergola
shade letting in
the skies
plenty comfortable,
cool-cozy
water running
from rocks
in winter
Christmas lights

Poem of Pain (Badge Book 2015 Pinch-an-Inch Found Poem)
Published November 8, 2017 by kdorholtThis is a Badge Book 2015 Pinch-an-Inch found poem. We were to find an article with intriguing words and use only words found in an inch of vertical text for a poem.
Poem of Pain
Look, Speaker,
that burned newspaper
of this century,
will serve as witness
to the poem of pain:
those shrouded bodies,
figures of fingers,
tumultuous towers,
a true, terrible plainness,
unthinkable, beyond
inevitable heartbreaking things
circumscribe women in line
under hard-won courage.
Mercy!

*Every Woman’s Dream (crowdsource poem/badge book/found poem)
Published October 16, 2017 by kdorholt(This is a crowdsource poem. I used information I gathered from many people in a public place about the topic of their engagement, combined ideas to write one poem,)
My perfect paradise–
the summer sunrise
a castle in France
the ring glimmered
–more
stunning than
strobe lights–
in his waiting hand
On that park bridge
on one knee
such hope claimed
his face like
the hero in
Nicholas Spark’s novel
or passionate play–
all Romeo and Juliet–
He used a
language I
could understand
while the wind
whistled and
whirled a song
my heart stopped
then beat faster,
I heard every word
*the word: engaged
*So Often Eyes (badge book/found poem)
Published October 16, 2017 by kdorholtSo often
our eyes
brown, blue, green
see cosmetic nothing
take for granted
wonder
Why?

*Black Hole Question (found poem/badge book 2015)
Published October 16, 2017 by kdorholtBlack holes . . .
Real?
Just
a name
using physics
we know?
One
black hole
reaches another . . .
What happens?
Discovery . . .
Evidence . . .
the other
within
our universe?
