Her Magic

Published April 29, 2019 by kdorholt

Her magic arms form

a cuddling cocoon

so like a

serene summer day

for a broken heart.

Her dreamer lips a

dusting of sudden silver.

No Sugar

Feel a certain chill

freeze the tender evening

Romance turns to ice.

She Sleeps

Published April 25, 2019 by kdorholt

She sleeps

in a silver-spun vision

of an eternity

within a rainbow

without fear.

Trouble is an instant

passing shadow.

Her heart is enchanted

by summer petals

because she is small

and

sugar is still sweet.

Candlelight

Wandering candlelight trembles

in the rhythmic evening breeze

and melts with the fire

that touches it

in long slow licks

as the silent summer night

burns with a whispered wish

for uncharted romance

and simple surrender.

At the Sink

Published April 22, 2019 by kdorholt

A single girl at the sink

wondering where the day went

as the warm water swirls

through her shriveling fingers

her mind lost in

the melancholy music of remembering.

Peeking Out

Published April 21, 2019 by kdorholt
Egg hunt

Egg hunt

A shining surprise peeking out

of the grass and morning dew

nestled like a rainbow jewel

brilliant blue vibrant pure

radiant red buttery gold

waiting for tiny child hands

to touch its intricate design and

cradle it like a glowing star

before waving such a sacred find

in a breezy dance of joyous delight.

Morning

As I wake to

a fresh new morning

the rosebud quietly opens

in the melody of

the same spreading sun

devoted to warming

both our faces.

No (a poem after the Notre Dame fire)

Published April 16, 2019 by kdorholt

Today the world feels different

dreary, empty, cold,

sunk to stoic loneliness,

in need of tender calm

After the burning devoured

a bright human hope

even a dreamer cries

at the why if it

Here we hesitate and imagine

the instant when all beat

well, clear, and simple

in our hearts

If heaven ever spun a rainbow

we need its unending color now.

Royal Days

Published April 15, 2019 by kdorholt

I remember royal days

wrapped with velvet moments

You dazzled as the knight

full of shimmer

forever chasing the elusive enemy

without surrendering your faith or friends

I am the girl

who rode by your side

Immaculate of heart

Thankful to be part of the play.

A Poem for Laura

This is a poem for

a wonder, a woman

who welcomed my children

with her full gentle keeping

Their escape to gilded days

of rainbow warmth

Where kindness spun like breathing

and imagination soared like song.
